Work package 3

(Integrated Solid Waste Management systems and approaches)

Work package 3 (WP 3) will provide West African stakeholders with the appropriate tools to implement ISWM systems which are adapted to the regional conditions identified in previous WPs. Those systems will offer logistical, technological and organizational models of ISWM systems for the different national contexts.

Under this premise, IWWA will identify best practices with regards to ISWM in European and non European countries, taking into account the waste composition of Western African countries, including Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE). The identification of successful waste management technologies and practices and their evaluation against the background of target countries will make feasible to adapt them to the specific regional needs.

Besides, IWWA partners will identify the technological and non technological requirements for the implementation of ISWM systems in the target countries, such as markets for recycled products, logistics needs, etc.

The above mentioned information and analysis will lead to the development of a guide for the selection of suitable ISWM systems in target countries as well as an implementation guide.
